Preparation for my ship portraits often took me around Sesuit Harbor and its outer reaches for inspiration and contemplation. On one of these ambulation’s, I began to collect local flora. Some people call them weeds, but I find wildflowers beautiful, and even more interesting as they dry in the long lovely autumn weather so typical of Cape Cod. The nest was found firmly woven into the flower head of the majestic Emperor Goldenrod, which is the variety often seen in the seaside dunes. It looked like a nice safe spot to keep a hatched egg!
